“I remember your genuine faith, for you share the ufaith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 1:5-9 NLT
Tabitha was a beautiful person who showed her faith by her works. She gave and sewed clothes for the poor.
The devotional explores what people will say about us when we die.
In the end, the love we showed will be most important.
Marriage is a blessing.
At one time in my life, I hated marriage and never wanted to be married. I looked at my parents’ relationship and the lack of real love and support and joy, plus my fear of adultery and being controlled kept me far far away in my heart. I had two main reasons: one I assumed or just thought that this vixen at my dad’s job had led him into infidelity and I could not imagine that as great and beautiful as my mom was & two I did not like when my dad spoke harshly and made everyone in the family feel stupid and unworthy. I wanted to be free and never be made to cry by a man. I never wanted to beg a man to stay with me. I never wanted this, I never wanted that. All of my motivations against marriage were hard-fast and negative: I didn’t know any happily married couples. I didn’t see anyone having fun in marriage. I had secrets in my heart that became words and those words became my attitude and my character as the quote goes.
But God had healing for me.
He had a man that He had selected me for and him for me. Every marriage is a covenant with God and if you Google “What is the marriage trend in America?”, the statistics will alarm you. The Bible says that the purpose of marriage is to raise godly offspring and bring glory to God.
I have not always done that. Marriage tests you and pulls out your flaws and weaknesses. The flaws come from my ego, my experiences, my heart. Yet, God giveth more grace.
I pray that my marriage will continue to grow into a testimony, despite all our imperfections.
Have you ever reflected on how much you want things to be as easy or as stable as they were yesterday?
And inevitably, they are not.
The new school year is starting and already things are different. New teachers. New rules. New procedures. New schedules.
Same old materials.
Time to be resourceful.
Time to innovate.
Time to be proactive.
Sometimes you don’t have it in you. Sometimes you do.
Sometimes the other constraints around you and out of your control impede on the good you want to do.
In our minds, we all know what is right, but as the Bible says, “The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Lord, strengthen our flesh so that we can live out the days of our lives as good examples for Christ. Give us energy despite the things in life that drain and drag us down. Help us to remember former times of hardship and bear up under the weight. Help us to be realistic and honest about what we are working with and help us to be fair with one another.
Please forgive us for longing for days of old and help us to make the future as useful as it can be. Forgive us for missed opportunities and help us to see clearly for the opportunities we have in the future.
Bless us to not let our emotions and circumstances control us, but to do as Paul and press forward toward the mark of the high calling in Jesus Christ.
In Jesus name,

My mother, audacious and vivacious, decorated my childhood with painted clay vase projects, where we mixed water and flour in our hands and baked the little half moon dishes while we ate Chips Ahoy and Oreo cookies. She would have us make magnets out of multicolored pieces and she showed us how creativity makes life great.

Fly in the ointment
A fly in the ointment is an idiom that has its origins in a text written thousands of years ago. We will look at the meaning of the phrase a fly in the ointment, the origins of this phrase and some examples of its use in sentences.
A fly in the ointment describes something slightly irritating that ruins the overall picture, the enjoyment or success of a situation. A fly in the ointment is a minor drawback that keeps someone from proclaiming a complete success. The idiom fly in the ointment most probably has its roots in the Old Testament, in the book of Ecclesiastes. In the King James version, translated in the early 1600s, the passage reads: “Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.” Well over one hundred idioms in common usage can be traced to the King James translation of the Bible. Interestingly, the first use of the idiom a fly in the ointment didn’t appear in the English language until early in the 1700s, in the book A Practical Treatise Concerning Humility by John Norris.Advertisement
I catch myself talking about the irritating things about others or complaining or praying fo someone else to change, but do I beg God to change me?
Am I aware of the offense things that I am do, say and cause that are stenches in the nostrils of those I offend? Can I be neutral in critiquing my flaws? Honest in estimating my success and my imperfections? Can we say that we know God if do not mortify the deeds of our members?
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Romans 8:13)
I had this phrase repeating in my head, the deeds of the flesh and the deeds of the Spirit are manifest. So that means that others can see if you are good…others can see if there are gaping holes.
Proverbs 9:1Wisdom has built her house;
she has carved outa her seven pillars.
2She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3She has sent out her maidservants;
she calls out from the heights of the city.
4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
she says to him who lacks judgment.
5“Come, eat my bread
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6Leave your folly behind, and you will live;
walk in the way of understanding.”
7He who corrects a mocker brings shame on himself;
he who rebukes a wicked man taints himself.
8Do not rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you;
rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
and years will be added to your life.
12If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage;
but if you scoff, you alone will bear the consequences.
I want so badly to be like Wisdom. I love the personification of Wisdom as a woman who is wisely preparing her home for company.
Yet, I see ways that I need to get the dead flies out of my ointment and I need to be patient to achieve the prize.
Grace in Greek, charis- is the unmerited favor of God toward man that was made possible by the sacrificial offering of Jesus on the cross. Grace is …GRACE AND ITS ORIGIN
Give people GRACE! Be okay with where they are and when they hurt you, forgive them.
Treat people how you want to be treated!
Be humble, forgiving, gracious, and grateful; It will help YOU FIND CONTENTMENT! 💃🏽
How many of us have talents that we are hiding? Or that we are to scared to share?
How could you hid your light…from shining?
God said, “There is a lamp stand put it right THERE!!””
Remember, Matthew 5:16 and “Let your 💡 LIGHT so shine before men that they may see your good works and GLORIFY your Father which art in Heaven!”
Let them look at your beautiful talents and know that there is a good God above, share that art, that acting, that singing, that cooking, that creating, that rap, that pottery, that furniture, that instrument so they can KNOW there is still a God above!!
Read this parable of Jesus to see what it looks like when you do it right and when you do it wrong.
As a person who has given people closest to me the silent treatment when I was so mad that I didn’t want to put it into words, I have recently learned that the silence kills as well.
Very thought-provoking article that I must share for the good of us all.
Hope you enjoy!
“Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.”

“Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

Obvious issues are vocalized and worn proudly, “Yeah, I am working on it, just not there YET.”
“Sure let’s talk all about it…my mom was grassroots organizer who never had time for her five kids because she was too busy passing out flyers and signing people up to vote. So I had to take care of the entire family instead of being a teenager. Thus, I wild’d out when I graduated high school. I started drag racing, doing tattoos, drinking, smoking, whatever. My real dream was to become a food scientist.”
Question #1 What two qualities failed this imaginary person, keeping him from achieving said dream?
Possible answers: Confidence from Encouragement & Support. Direction and Tenacity. (This qualities are capitalized to respect them as individual personalities.)
I marvel at women bosses. Female business moguls, lady tycoons. In my head, somehow, the partriachal structure of both my five person nuclear family and America at large scrunch their nose up, like “What? Lol.” Lady tycoon? The accepted and traditional career paths are as follows: teacher, lawyer, nurse, home economics teacher, seamstress, banker, teacher, teacher, teacher, teacher, and teacher.
To pave a path, to pioneer, one must be fearless, and certain.
Sunday, December 18th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at Jackson Street Church of Christ, a exceptionally MOVING and BEAUTIFUL memorial service took place in honor of Gloria Charles née Gloria Carr, my husband’s cousin Sugar Dumpling.
Sugar Dumpling was one of those Lady Tycoons.
She was BEAUTIFUL.
She was elegant.
She was particular.
She was glowing in the large framed photograph in the center table surrounded by her loved onze who had gone on before she.
I had barely known her.
Yet I cried like a baby that ran outta milk on her grandma while her parents were thirty minutes away at the mall and nothing could be done to make it better! Her life said treat yourself special, treat others special. Be fearless. Laugh. Love what you love. Be particular. Demand the best. Live out loud.
Gloria Charles glowed.
Little Glow worm.
Her obituary proclaims that she left the south for Hollywood!
She played Richard Pryor’s girlfriend in Brewster’s Millions.
She had Confidence, Direction, and Tenacity.
One of my most favorite quotes is from Oscar Wilde, “Beauty for Beauty’s sake.”
Her cousin Jeff and her brother Hugh spoke of her surrounding herself with the best, with beauty, with cleanliness ( she learned this from her mother, Aunt Pa). “Fine and dandy like candy.” was quoted as one of Gloria’s favorite sayings. She loved romantic Soul songs from the Commodore, Earth, Windows, and Fire, the Dramatics, and Deniece Williams.
Can’t you just love a person you never met but who lived full of love and tenderness!
Truly, it moved me.
That Saturday night I dreamed I was at a church event watching my students perform a play on ice. My dad was putting the babies in the car and I ran back in the church to pee really quick before we left. I was in the bathroom when I saw these black square glasses I recognized as my grandmother’s (in reality, she is deceased). I pulled the glasses out and they were attached to a beautiful pink Bible case that was embroidered with 1 Corinthians 12. I put it back down, washed my hands, and started a conversation with a teacher from a school in Murfreesboro. I shared with her my (actual) desire to create a Spoken Word Scripture team.
Well when I got up and read 1 Corinthians 12, Paul preaches about how we are all members of One body with different administrations or roles, but One Spirit. Romans 12 speak of the same: differing gifts and using your gifts Excellently!
“Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things WELL. Sone if God has given you the ability to prophesy, then prophesy whenever you can–as often as your faith is strong enough to receive a message from God. If you gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are teacher, do a good job of teaching. If you are a preacher, see to it that your sermons be strong and helpful. If God has given you money, be generous in helping others with it. If God has given you administrative ability and put you in charge of the work of others, take the responsibility seriously. Those who offer comfort to the sorrow ingredients should do so with Christian cheer. Don’t just pretend that you love others: really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with brotherly affection and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Romans 12:6-12
