Dr. Suzzette Shaw Goldmon Joins UAPB as Assistant Professor of Hospitality, Tourism Management

Dr. Suzzette Shaw Goldmon has been named assistant professor of hospitality and tourism management for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). The university’s new program in hospitality and tourism management prepares students for managerial and high-level supervisory positions in restaurant operations, the tourism industry, event planning, hotel administration and other operational and administrative roles.
As UAPB’s first professor of hospitality and tourism management, Dr. Goldmon will teach courses related to gaming, lodging, sales, human resources, tourism, resort management and other hospitality-related courses. She will also mentor students and supervise internships.
Dr. Goldmon will be responsible for recruitment, retention and advertising efforts for the degree program. She will also conduct research and other scholarly activities related to the UAPB Department of Human Sciences. Community outreach and engagement, including industry partnerships, will also be a priority.

Throughout centuries people have been putting deli meats and breads together for a delicious delight – a sandwich. Even though they were created as a convenience food, they can be a quick and healthy nutritious meal to share with family and friends, Teresa Henson, Extension specialist and nutrition outreach coordinator, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 1890 Cooperative Extension Program, said.
With August being National Sandwich Month and children getting back to school and parents to work, this is an ideal time to incorporate sandwiches into lunches, she said. According to the Choose My Plate website (https://www.choosemyplate.gov/eathealthy/grains), this is a good way to include whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean meats into kids’ diets. For example, add cucumbers or spinach as toppings on a turkey sandwich.
